Cretu: We will fight for every ball

Rzeszow, Poland, November 26, 2018 - Asseco Resovia Rzeszow upset three-time world champions Sada Cruzeiro Contagem of Brazil in five sets on the opening day of the 2018 FIVB Men's Club World Championship and this has given a very welcome boost to the struggling Polish club.

Gheorghe Cretu, Resovia coach: "I am very happy about this victory, because we've deserved it. They are really nice guys, the whole team is working hard and we really need this kind of wins. Today the serve, block-defence system and the quality of reception were crucial for this victory. Now we have to concentrate on the next game, we will fight for each ball and try to win it."

Marcin Mozdzonek, Resovia captain: "In the current situation in which we find ourselves - a terrible ratio of matches in PlusLiga and some problems in and around the club - we needed this victory like a fish needs water. We are pleased that in the end we managed to overcome the stagnacy which has prevailed so far and which was also visible in the fourth set, when we were leading but in the end lost the set. Fortunately, we have kept more cold blood in the fifth part, despite the bad start on our side. We do not know yet what potential we have, but after today's match we can say that it is quite decent, and it is definitely not our last word yet. For us, this tournament is an opportunity to recover and show the fans that we can play volleyball at a very high level, pleasing to the eye."

Fernando Kreling, Sada Cruzeiro setter: "They played quite a good match. They made too many mistakes at the beginning but it got better with time. In total they played well. We did too, but our mistakes occured in key moments and it changed the match in their favour."
