Resovia face Fakel in bid to bow out with medal

 

Czestochowa, Poland, December 1, 2018 - Hosts Asseco Resovia Rzeszow take on Fakel Novy Urengoy Sunday evening for bronze at the 2018 FIVB Men's Club World Championship in a bid to become the third Polish side in the history of the competition to climb on the podium - while Fakel can become the fifth Russian side to finish in the top three.

Head-to-Head
• Asseco Resovia Rzeszow and Fakel Novy Urengoy will meet each other for the first time at the FIVB Club World Championships.
• Fakel won their only previous match against a Polish side when they defeated PGE Skra Belchatow 3-2 in pool play this year.
• Resovia have met Russian opposition in the CEV Champions League four times, winning one and losing three times.
• They won and lost against Lokomotiv Novosibirsk in the Playoffs in 2015, and advanced on points and eventually lost the final against Zenit Kazan 3-0.
• Resovia also lost the semifinals a year later against Zenit-Kazan (3-1).

Asseco Resovia Rzeszow
• Resovia won their first two matches before losing to Diatecx Trentino in their last group phase match and against Cucine Lube Civitanova in the semifinals.
• Resovia could become the third Polish side to finish in the top three of the men's Club World Championship. PGE Skra Belchatow have claimed two second places (2009, 2010) and a third place finish (2012) and Jastrzebski Wegiel finished runners-up in their only campaign in 2011.
• Thibault Rossard (60) is the only player of Resovia to have scored more than 50 points at the 2018 Club World Championship.
• In the 3-1 defeat against Lube in the semifinals, Rossard was the top scorer of the match with 19 points.
• Rossard and Damian Schulz both have a team-high nine aces in the tournament.

Fakel Novy Urengoy
• Fakel Novy Urengoy won their first two matches, both in five sets, before losing to Cucine Lube Civitanova in their last pool phase fixture and against Trentino Volley in the semifinals.
• Fakel can become the fifth Russian side to finish the tournament in the top-3.
• The last Russian debutants to achieve this feat were Belogorie Belgorod, who won the tournament in 2014, their only participation.
• The two leading scorers at the 2018 club world championship play at Fakel: Artur Udrys (67) and Dmitry Volkov (64).
• In the 3-1 defeat against Trentino, Udrys had an equal match-high 18 points, shared with Trentino's Uros Kovacevic.
