Trentino, Lube make world final 'domestic'

 

Czestochowa, Poland, December 1, 2018 - Cucine Lube Civitanova and Diatecx Trentino have set up an all-Italian final at the 2018 FIVB Men's Club World Championship, with the former going for a record fifth world title and the latter aiming for redemption after losing out in last year's final.

Head-to-Head
• Cucine Lube Cvitanova and Diatecx Trentino will meet for the first time at the FIVB Club World Championships.
• This is the second time the final of the Men's Club World Championship will be played by teams from the same country. In 1992, Misura Milan defeated fellow Italians Sisley Treviso.
• Lube and Trentino have met each other six times in the European Champions League, which each side winning three times.
• Last season, Lube won both Playoff matches in the Champions League against Trentino.
• In the Italian Serie A, Lube and Trentino most recently met on 4 November. Lube won 3-2 at home, after trailing 2-1.
• Last season, Lube won both Serie A matches against Trentino.

Cucine Lube Civitanova
• Lube reached the final by winning each of their three matches in their pool and beating Asseco Resovia Rzeszow 3-1 in the semifinals.
• In 2017, during their only previous appearance at the Club World Championship, Lube also won each of their three group phase matches and defeated their semifinals opponents, Polish side PGE Skra Belchatow. In the final, Lube lost to Zenit Kazan, their only defeat in the competition to date.
• Sada Cruzeiro (2013) and Zenit-Kazan (2017) are the only teams to have won the title at the Club World Championship after losing the final the year before.
• Banespa Sao Paulo (1990-1991), Skra Belchatow (2009-2010) and Zenit-Kazan (2015-2016) are the only teams to have lost the final of the Club World Championship in back-to-back years.
• Tsvetan Sokolov is Lube's top scorer in the tournament on 61 points, followed by Yoandy Leal and Osmany Juantorena on 56 each.

Diatecx Trentino
• Trentino have reached the final of the Club World Championship for the fifth time, a new record in the tournament as Sada Cruzeiro have played four finals.
• Trentino won the trophy on each of the previous four occasions they reached the final. Those four titles are already a record in the competition.
• Trentino have won 10 of their last 11 matches at the Club World Championship, with the only exception a 3-0 defeat to Zenit Kazan in the 2016 semifinals.
• In total, Trentino have a winning percentage of 89% in their 37 Club World Championship matches (33 victories, 4 defeats).
• Uros Kovacevic is Trentino's top scorer this tournament on 56 points, including an equal match-high 18 points in the 3-1 win over Fakel Novy Urengoy in their most recent match.
• Trentino have the best setter (Simone Giannelli), best digger (Jenia Grebennikov) and best receiver (again Grebennikov) at the 2018 club world championship.
